Cloonacuneen Castle is a 15th century gem castle hidden away here in Galway and what makes it more impressive is that it is only 15ish minutes from the city centre which makes it very handy to get to. . When you generally have a smaller wedding party, they can be totally lost in a much bigger venue which makes Cloonacauneen Castle a fabulous location for civil weddings as they really do cater for the more intimate sizes.

The wedding car was a very well maintained and cared for Ford Prefect which was owned by Joan’s father. It was the perfect choice for the wedding car and the colour scheme worked a [perfect macth for the brides dress and flowers.

This is a signature shot for the castle and with the weather being a bit on the nippy side, a fire was more than welcome to keep everyone nice and toasty.

Colleen & Declan came over to Ireland to get married and one of the things we decided to do was to grab some quality time together before the big day. Now Declan is a fisherman back in the USA and we thought it would be a good idea to have a boat/fishing village theme in the shoot just to make him feel a little more comfortable.

We started off at Roundstone in Connemara which is a really lovely sleepy little village almost as far west as you can go once you leave Galway.CD e session 108 Colleen & Declan {e session} | Roundstone, Connemara

From Roundstone we headed to one of my alltime favourite places to shoot weddings, Ballynahinch Castle, Recess, Connemara.

And then we finished the day off with a romantic walk on the beach in Spiddal. By now the weather had turned against us slightly but it didn’t stop the guys from wanting to kick the shoes off and take a walk in the water.

The day started off nice and bright with a few drops of rain whilst driving to the hotel. But then what do you expect when you are living in a part of the country that has a 3rd more rain in the year compared to Dublin icon smile Sinead & David {married} | St. Eanna’s Parish Church, Spiddal & Twelve Hotel, Barna

The bride prep started off in the lovely and swish Twelve Hotel in Barna. What I really liked about the start of the day was seeing so many family and friends popping in and seeing Sinead and generally making the most of the day already, helped along with a glass of bubbly of course icon wink Sinead & David {married} | St. Eanna’s Parish Church, Spiddal & Twelve Hotel, Barna

Every now and then we do get great weather and of course a trip to the beach is a must

Just to try something a little different. I asked the guys in the lifeguard station would they mind joining in the fun and of course they jumped at the opportunity. One of them even said that in all the weddings they had seen using the beach, it was the the first time they had ever been asked to join in so it made it even more special for everyone.

Once we finished rolling about in the sand we headed over to do some alternative images using the woods as a backdrop. I love the natural light and the contrast of the colours against the bridal party outfits – gorgeous!!!!!

Can you image the surprise from the bride and groom on the day of wedding when I turned up as it was something they had not expected or arranged. The reason for this was the photography was a present from Amy’s bridesmaid which I think was a lovely gesture.

It was a very intimate affair with only very close family at the service which was held at the Ramada Encore Hotel in Oranmore (since changed the name to the Oyster Hotel, Oranmore). Once that was over, we made our way to a local park for some fun and games.

The 2012 results for the Irish Wedding Survey recently undertaken by the online wedding community,  Mrs2be.ie in conjunction with Aislinn Events were just released.

There are some interesting numbers shown in there with obviously the photography figures being of more interest to me than the others to me. However, it still shows that the overall reduction against 2010 is about 3% which in light of the recession we are experiencing is not as much as I thought it would be. Mind you, predicitions for next year are that it will be going down again so fingers crossed it does not effect everyone too badly.

I have provided the 2010/2011 comparison figures below for you to see but if you prefer to see the full breakdown then head over to Mrs2be.ie to read it all.

What was really special about this wedding was that they did not know I was going to be there documenting the day as it was organised by their friend who was also Amy’s bridesmaid. Amy and Stephen were just such a ball to work with and were more than happy to do anything that was asked of them and it will show when I release more images shortly.

Both Sharon & Duncan live just outside London but decided Galway was where they were to get married as Sharon is originally from the area and also went to the university here too. I love going to the NUIG Chapel in Galway and because of its size, it is such an intimate location. Also, with the amazing amount of natural light in there, is just brilliant  for us photographers.
