Tara & JJ who are from a town near to Washington, USA came across all the way over Ireland to get hitched. It was a fairly intimate affair with around 50 or so of their closest family and friends gathering at the beautiful and scenic location of Knappogue Castle near to Bunratty in County Clare.

Before everyone headed to the castle to enjoy the service. Both the bride and the groom were getting ready for the day at the Templegate Hotel in Ennis, County Clare where the reception took place later in the day. It was handy having both there for obvious reasons but later it became a bit of a military operation to ensure that the bride and groom did not see each other before they made it up to the castle.

This wedding was also co-ordinated with the help of the wonderful wedding planner, Annie Byrne of Aislinn Events who is based down in Kerry.

I was a little taken back when Tara showed me the shoes, well in this case, the boots she was wearing on the day. Totally unusual and not the standard style we see week in and week out. Love it!!!!

One of the other twists on the day was that Tara wanted to wear her favourite socks and again it was great as it was totally unusual.

I have to say Middleton Park House in Castletown Geoghan is one of my favourite places to visit as it is not very often we see a location with such a grand staircase like the one here. The Georgian architecture really has stood the test of time and makes for such a truly fabulous place to have your wedding day there.

Denise and Nick came over from the USA to get married in Ireland and they chose the fabulous Cathedral of Saints Peter & Paul to have the service.

Now with this wedding, I have to say this was probably the furthest the couple had to go to get to the reception. It took them a huge 2 minutes to come across the road from The Old Ground Hotel to the Cathedral – bliss!!!

I also liked the fact that the dress code was formal and that the guys wore tuxedo’s which does look pretty sharp for a wedding.

With this wedding, the guys had a 2nd shooter which enabled the groom preparation to be covered also which in my eyes really gives a great coverage of the day. After the service and greetings were done, all the guests headed back to the hotel to take in a cocktail hour whilst I took Denise & Nick to Quin Abbey to do some photos. It is such an interesting place and makes for an amazing backdrop. What with typical Irish weather we had a little but of rain but that did not deter the guys from getting in and getting the shots taken.

Another wedding taking place at one of my favorite churches to get hitched and that being St Mary’s Church here in Galway. This church really does have some amazing stained glass windows which are so dramatic when the light is right.

The bride prep took place at the Ardilaun Hotel which is very handy especially considering how close it is to the church. It is always a saving grace afterwards as it saves worrying about the drive afterwards.

Cloonacuneen Castle is a 15th century gem castle hidden away here in Galway and what makes it more impressive is that it is only 15ish minutes from the city centre which makes it very handy to get to. . When you generally have a smaller wedding party, they can be totally lost in a much bigger venue which makes Cloonacauneen Castle a fabulous location for civil weddings as they really do cater for the more intimate sizes.

The wedding car was a very well maintained and cared for Ford Prefect which was owned by Joan’s father. It was the perfect choice for the wedding car and the colour scheme worked a [perfect macth for the brides dress and flowers.

I cant tell you how excited I was when I was asked to head across to Copenhagen, Denmark to shoot a very intimate wedding with Matt & Anneli. Copenhagen as a city is simply an amazing place with so much to do and see and the great thing about it that you can walk to a lot of the places very easily.

With this in mind, Anneli and Matt wanted to do a walkabout shoot using some of the places of interest around the city which was great fun. It was really interesting seeing peoples reactions also as some of them were unsure as to what really was going on as we could have easily have been mistaken for being part of a photoshoot.

The service took place at the grand City Hall which is an impressive building anyway but when you get inside, you are blown away with the architecture, paintings and most of all the space inside, it is huuuuge.

Lindsay | Trash the Dress

February 2, 2013

The Trash the Dress concept is a still fairly new thing in Ireland and generally you find that nearly all the sessions are with the bride only. On the odd occasion the groom might take part like a Trash the Dress shoot I did a while back and but either way, it will make for some great images.

Being honest, I have only ever seen a a handful of sessions where the bride really does destroy the dress and again as much as it makes for great images, it is not everyone’s cup of tea. The idea of the session is to be able to wear the dress (& suit) and head to a location or locations that you normally would not have visited on the wedding day and get some alternate pictures. Some brides do go and have the hair and makeup done as if the wedding day was happening all over again whereas some would prefer not to.

So you can imagine my joy when Lindsay got in touch asking to do a session and that this session was to take place on a farm – bliss!!!!!!Lindsay 104 Lindsay | Trash the Dress

Can you image the surprise from the bride and groom on the day of wedding when I turned up as it was something they had not expected or arranged. The reason for this was the photography was a present from Amy’s bridesmaid which I think was a lovely gesture.

It was a very intimate affair with only very close family at the service which was held at the Ramada Encore Hotel in Oranmore (since changed the name to the Oyster Hotel, Oranmore). Once that was over, we made our way to a local park for some fun and games.

I get asked this question quite frequently by clients when I meet with them for the first time. And the answer in my eyes is “yes” for a number of reasons and I will explain why.

1) Getting to know each other

I generally feel that by having the session it allows everyone to get a bit more comfortable with each and by being more comfy, it means you relax. By relaxing it means we work quicker and by doing things quicker the day moves along much more smoothly.

Galway engagement session Is it important to do an engagement session??

2) Practice for the big day

It may sound a bit corny but lets be honest here, the vast majority of people are not models and are not using to being photographed anywhere near the amount you will be on the big day. Keeping in mind that on the day you will be stopped by a lot of people, whether it be family or friends asking to grab a quick snap of the happy couple. This does not take into account the time you spend with your photographer having the official shots taken. Oh boy, the jaws will ache  icon smile Is it important to do an engagement session??   Thankfully I have the perfect cure for the jaw ache and I will provide a few little tips to help overcome this.

On the engagement session, I tend to put people into a”default” position as a starting point and the reason for this is that it then allows me to direct into another position much quicker. After all, the quicker the position is taken the shot is taken and the quicker we can get things moving along. I hear it a lot that couples do not want to spend hours taking pictures and being away from your guests. It is important that you relax and enjoy the day.

3) Having fun

This is by far the most important aspect of the session. I will get you doing some silly things but there is actually method in the madness and most importantly it gets some lovely natural images of you guys just being yourselves.

4) Signing Board

One of the other advantages of taking part is that it allows the couple to use one of the images and put it in a frame to use as a signing board for the wedding day itself. It is becoming very popular and also gives it a slightly more personal feel to the usual signing book that most people tend to have.

After the service at St Michael’s Catholic Church we headed straight to Middleton Park House to do the family pictures. Just before heading down the long driveway I asked the couple to stop by these huge trees so I could capture an image I had in my mind. It was not all plain sailing at first as the heavens opened up on us and the first attempt at getting this shot was scuppered somewhat. A little while later we were blessed with some lovely weather so I grabbed them both and took them back down whilst we had the time to do it.

I got my shot in the end and the couple have a fabulous image that is asking to be printed as a canvas.
